My favorite movie genre of all-time: rom-coms. They're perfect for any situation or mood (in my humble opinion) and especially for hopeless romantics like myself - they're always just an easy watch. There's something that the romantic comedies of the 2000's have a hold on me that just hit different than the ones made today. From the editing, grainier look, nostalgic feel, soundtracks - IYKYK. How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days (2003)
It's hard to not love this movie when you've got two such attractive and funny leads: Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.You can tell from the chemistry of these two and their comedic timing, this movie is just *chefs kiss*. Heartwarming, a little cheesy, sweet and a tear-jerker. Simply put, when you watch this one, you'll know what I mean when I say, "they just don't make movies like this anymore!"
Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
The warmth of the south really shines through in this classic, highlighting the story of first love and how nothing can quite compare to the first person you fall in love with no matter how much you try to deny it. There's also a touch of remembering your roots and where you're from which I love. From the lovable characters, the "small town feel" in comparison the "big city" feel, and the idea that lightning can create these glass artifacts which ties back to the beginning of the story - everything all comes full circle.
Being from Florida, this one just hits home for me and you can't get enough of young Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas. Storyline to the sound track, you can't go wrong with Sweet Home Alabama.
The Notebook (2004)
I didn't watch this for years after it debuted in theaters but when I did, let me tell you, it had me crying for a love I had never even experienced yet. The cinematography of South Carolina in the '40s era, the outfits, the accents, the love - ugh, this was probably my first romantic comedy I fell in love with. A lot more plot twists than I was expecting for a young girl watching this, but it really did exceed my expectations.
There's also something about watching an actor get their start at the beginning of their career and this was that for both Ryan Gosling who wasn't well known at all at the time and Rachel McAdams who was just getting noticed for Mean Girls. You can feel the chemistry through the screen of these two which played out into real life since they dated from 2005-2007 after meeting. But fun fact, Gosling allegedly wanted McAdams to get fired due to their lack of chemistry initially on set even asking the director of the film, Nick Cassavetes, if he could fire his co-star.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Okay, this one just pulls at my heartstrings only because when I first watched this I liked a guy with the last name Marshall and even moreso ironically, the girl he liked was Sarah. Put th pieces together..... yes, I'm Rachael which are the main female leads in this movie. But that aside, still a really great Judd Apatow romcom with just my kind of humor. You've got Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russel Brand, Pauld Rudd, Jonah Hill - all the greats. The movie has Judd Apatow Written all over it.
Friends With Benefits (2011)
One of my favorite rom coms of all time. If you're in any type of "situationship" this might make you second-guess falling for that hookup because it created false pretenses in my head. But what I loved most about this one was that they upfront made fun of the clichés most romantic comedies will make and they almost beat you to it. The ending is also sweet in the sense of them tying it back to that but without it being too too cheesy.
Not a huge Justin Timberlake fan as an artist but wow, I was surprised at how good he was at acting. Mila Kunis is just beautiful to watch and something about her is so endearing. As the title holds, this is a heavily sex/hook-up based movie but still an engaging and delightful watch that like I said, isn't too predictable.
Just Go With It (2011)
Just Go With It highlights another comedic duo: Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston through a typical "love was right in front of me" story with its fair share of cheesy romantic gestures. This is one of my top 5 favorite Adam Sandler movies. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston will always remain one of my favorites. Their chemistry is astounding and Adam Sandler's sense of humor can be described with only one word: EPIC. You are surely in for a humorous ride.
She's The Man (2006)
This one really takes me back to younger teenage me. A film about a girl disguising herself as her brother to be part of the boy's soccer team, played by Amanda Bynes. I love this movie. I remember always watching this in the car ride of longer road trips with my parents. It's an enjoyable romantic comedy movie for other Millenials. You also can't miss young Channing Tatum as her love interest.
The Proposal (2009)
Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Betty White. That's all you need to know. This is one of the movies that I constantly see playing on the T.V. guide. If you haven't seen this, watch this as soon as you can.
