Will Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, win everything at the 2023 Oscars?
Warning: Predictions Ahead
There has been a ton of speculation surrounding the Oscars this year, who will win, who will perform and who will get snubbed. Here is our breakdown of predictions of what will be considered hot and who will get left in the dark. Will it finally be the year of women at the Oscars, we have to wait and see.
This has been a big year in movies for women, but we are feeling a type of way for the snub that “The Woman King” experienced by not getting nominated for best director. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood said,
“I’ll never get over it, because what happened was egregious and … it speaks to such a bigger issue in our industry,”
Women continue to not be highlighted as the list of best director was revealed this year, revealing a list of all men directors with the favor going to Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert for “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.”
With an impressive list of Best Actress nominations including new comer Michelle Yeoh from again, the breakthrough movie “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once” – we believe she will have a sweeping win for the night and most likely will win the category however, we are rooting for Michelle WIlliams in the Fabelmans. Although the movie experienced mixed reviews, just like “Blonde”– Williams has displayed a track record of impressive female lead and supporting roles throughout her career.
Our best supporting actress prediction will go to Angela Bassett. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There isn't enough time to speak about Bassett's long list of strong female lead and supporting roles, but partially her vigor and ability to step into the matriarchal role in the sequel, on the heels of losing such a polarizing lead male – it is a true testament to her ability to captivate an audience and it's about time she gets recognized. Unfortunately, the lead contender is Jamie Lee Curtis to win in this category from Everything, Everywhere…you know.
Will Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, win everything?
Performances are also on the table this year. Rhianna is again set to take the stage following her Superbowl performance with her feature song from the Black Panther soundtrack. However missing from the performance list was Lady Gaga who was rumored to take to the stage to perform her original song from the Top Gun: Mavrick – Hold My Hand. There have been multiple rumors as to why she is unable to make it, but it turns out that Lady Gaga would not be able to perform due to her filming schedule for "Joker: Folie à Deux," say sources. Do I see a 2024 nomination in the future for Gaga?
We have learned not to get our hopes up, but we will be waiting to see if the academy steps to the plate this year.
