In case you haven’t been keeping up, Supreme court justice Clarence Thomas and his lack of ethics are making headlines.
Here’s a timeline of his blatant violations. (PS: If you’re a witch, bust out the supplies and let’s get him off the bench and into obscurity.)
1991: Clarence secures Supreme Court seat despite his sexual harassment against Anita Hill. (If you haven't, watch the documentary.)
1996: Clarence meets billionaire Republican donor Harlan Crow, a bromance ensues.
1997: Clarence takes Harlan’s private plane to an all-male retreat. (He did disclose this trip.)
2001: Harlan gives ol’ Clarence Frederick Douglass’ Bible and a sculpture of Abraham Lincoln. Clarence discloses these.
2001: Harlan donates $175,000 to a library to be built in honor of Clarence and fights for it to be named after him.
2004: The Los Angeles Times reports the gifts between Harlan and Clarence, after this Clarence stops disclosing the gifts almost entirely.
2008: Harlan starts paying Clarence’s grandnephew’s $6,200 monthly tuition.
2009: Harlan donates $500k to a conservative nonprofit founded by Clarence’s wife Ginni who also got a $120k salary from the org.
2011: The New York Times exposes more lavish gifts from Harlan to Clarence.
2014: Clarence sells three pieces of property to Harlan. Doesn’t disclose.
2018: Obsessed much? Harlan gives $105,000 to Yale Law School for a portrait of Clarence.
2019-ish: Clarence gets flewed out nearly every year to exotic locations, courtesy of Harlan. Trips that value $500k
2020 - 2021: Ginni openly criticizes the Jan. 6 committee, and texts are exposed between her and Trump staff strategizing how to overturn the election. (A situation where Clarence should have recused himself, of course he didn't.)
Today: Dems put the pressure on Harlan for an accounting of undisclosed gifts. Stay tuned for updates, we'll be casting spells in the meantime.
