Demi Lovato Drops Roe v. Wade Protest Song “Swine”
Nearly one year after the overturning of Roe v. Wade
For Demi Lovato’s latest project “Swine,” the artist lends her incredible vocals to an angsty pro-life track. Lovato, who prefers to use female pronouns now after finding educating the masses on gender identity “exhausting,” continues to be a beacon for marginalized communities, and “Swine” does not disappoint.
Releasing almost a year to the date Roe v. Wade was overturned, Demi describes the project in and Instagram post writing the following caption:
“It’s been one year since the Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle the constitutional right to safe abortion, and although the path forward will be challenging, we must continue to be united in our fight for reproductive justice, I created ‘SWINE’ to amplify the voices of those who advocate for choice and bodily autonomy. I want this song to empower not only the birthing people of this country but everyone who stands up for equality, to embrace their agency and fight for a world where every person’s right to make decisions about their own body is honored.”
In the video Demi dons a red hooded jacket and dress, most likely an ode to the iconic uniforms in Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid’s Tale. The video sees Lovato at a mock court ruling, delivering the pointed lyrics to a table of judges before ripping up their decree and sending her cohorts of cool folks into a frenzy.
The lyrics make it pretty clear where Demi stands, one of the standout lines being, ”God forbid I wanna suck whatever the f-ck I wanna/ God forbid I wanna f-ck whoever the fuck I want/ And if he c*ms, I guess I better be a mother.”
